Kyrie Irving has actually been on a tear despite fasting throughout Ramadan.
On Sunday, Irving led the Brooklyn Internet to a win versus the Phoenix Suns. He published 34 points and 12 assists on 5-of-7 3s. He has actually averaged 24.1 points this month, on 46% shooting from the field.
In a postgame press conference on Friday, Irving opened up about his faith and validated that he is observing Ramadan, the most spiritual month in Islam marked by spiritual reflection, heightened dedication and fasting.
Throughout Ramadan, Muslims fast from daybreak to sunset, refraining from consuming and drinking, to celebrate the revelation of the Quran, National Geographic kept in mind.
” Yeah, I am participating in Ramadan with a lot of my Muslim bros and siblings. And it’s been an adjustment. That’s truly what I can state,” Irving said.
” It’s simply being committed to my service to God, Allah, and then continuing with whatever I’m directed with.”
It’s uncommon for Irving to open up about his individual life, not to mention speak about his faith. This is the very first time he’s discussed his faith openly. Although he has referenced it previously.
Depending upon the time of the video games, Irving is not able to drink or consume ahead of time, Yahoo Sports kept in mind.
Speaking about fasting, another Muslim NBA star stated it isn’t as difficult as it sounds.
“Once the video game is going, you don’t think of ‘you’re thirsty,’ you don’t think of ‘you’re starving’ or anything like that … You’re simply concentrating on the game,” Portland Trailblazers’ Enes Kanter told Oregon Live.
“One thing about Ramadan, I feel like it is all up in your head,” he included.
“It’s all about simply mental strength.”
